Spafax Inc. wins six Pearl awards for custom publishing

Spafax Inc. of Montreal, publishers of enRoute magazine, has been awarded two gold and four bronze awards -- at the annual competition of the Custom Publishing Council in New York. Redwood Custom Communications won a silver and bronze as did Transcontinental Media and Rogers Publishing Limited won a silver.

The 4th annual Pearl awards were presented to an audience of 140 custom publishing executives by Dr. Samir Husni, chair, Journalism Department at University of Mississippi and Mediabistro founder Laurel Touby. The winners were selected out of a total 572 entries.

Unlike traditional magazine awards, custom publication awards have a number of unusual categories, including "best achievement of corporate objectives" or "best proof of return on investment".

The Canadian winners:

Spafax Inc.
  • Gold for for best cover design for a magazine with less than 250,000 circulation to in magazine, LAN Airlines (tie with McMurry Publishing)
  • Gold for best overall design, more than 250,000 circulation for Pure Canada, Canadian Tourism Commission
  • Bronze for best overall design 50,000 to 250,000 for in
  • Bronze for best use of photography less than 250,000 for enRoute, Air Canada
  • Bronze for best overall editorial 50,000 to 250,000 for enRoute, Air Canada
  • Bronze for best proof of return on investment for onAir, Air Canada
Redwood Custom Communications
  • Silver, most improved design more than 250,000, New Outlook, Sears Canada
  • Bronze, best use of photography more than 250,000, Rouge, Procter & Gamble (this was done by a division of Redwood, Javelin Custom Publishing)
Transcontinental Media
  • Silver, design of best new publication/magazine for Cellier, Societe des Alcools du Quebec
  • Bronze, best new publication/magazine, Cellier (tied with Rodale Custom Publishing, You 24, 24 Hour Fitness)
Rogers Publishing
  • Silver, best achievement of corporate objectives, URmagazine, Rogers Wireless (tie with Time Inc. Content Solutions, Merrill Lynch Advisor)

Thanks for the posting re: the Pearl Awards. Just wanted to mention that "Pure Canada" won gold for best overall design at the Pearl Awards. "Pure Canada" is the custom publication for the Canadian Tourism Commission.
