Spacing publisher to lead Globe forum on bicycle safety in wake of tragic incident
Spacing magazine publisher Matt Blackett has been tapped by the Globe and Mail to moderate an online conversation about safety and cycling in the city. Of course it is prompted by the arrest (and, now, serious charges) of former Ontario attorney general Michael Bryant for a fracas that resulted in the death of cyclist Darcy Allan Sheppard on Bloor Street in Toronto.
The incident is by turns bizarre, grisly and tragic for all concerned.
Blackett is an active cyclist and fervent promoter of better facilities for cyclists, such as bike lanes. Spacing is a magazine devoted to understanding and enhancing the urban landscape.
The forum will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday 2nd.
(Apparently there is to be a memorial to the dead cyclist at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Bay and Bloor, with cyclists holding a 5-minute vigil with their bikes lying in the street.)

1 Comments:
Let's create more bike lanes, and use chain gangs of bike couriers to do the work.
