Profit magazine has published its annual ranking of Canada's Fastest-Growing Companies, the Profit 100. For the first time in its 18-year-history, the top spot on the PROFIT 100 goes to a company from Atlantic Canada. Rutter Inc. of St. John's, Nfld., is a marine technologies, engineering and automation company that saw a whopping 31,598% revenue growth over the past five years. "The companies on the Profit 100 are role models for anyone who wants to seize today's best business opportunities," says editor Ian Portsmouth. "By differentiating their products and applying creative management thinking, Canada's Fastest Growing Companies are outpacing the competition at home and abroad." Especially abroad, as most of the top companies do a lot of exporting. They generated $3.56 billion in sales to foreign markets in 2005, compared with just $286 million in 2000.Seventy-two firms on the PROFIT 100 export to the U.S., 45 to the U.K, 39 to other Western European countries, 29 to Australia, 25 to Pacific Rim countries other than Japan and China, and 21 to Mexico.
Ironically, none of the fastest growing companies publish magazines.
