CMC presents awards for outstanding circulation

The CMC Awards are presented to celebrate the creativity of Canadian circulators, recognizing and honouring excellent, professional circulation work being done in the Canadian publishing industry. This year's awards were presented at a reception Wednesday evening during the MagNet conference in Toronto and the winners are:
  • Audience DevelopmentCanada’s History Magazine. (The award is made on the basis of meeting strategic objectives with a circulation promotion, innovation, execution and results.) 
  • CMC Scholarship – Fiona Wong (House and Home) (formerly known as the Caren King Scholarship Award, this recognizes an individual’s initiative and achievement, and encourages further professional development. The scholarship is worth $3,000.)
  • Vendor Award – Cindy Chang (CDS Global) (recognizing an individual working with a vendor in support of the Canadian publishing industry – a remarkable person who helps magazine circulation experts excel at what they do. This includes those working in distribution, delivery, fulfillment and database support.)
  • Magazine of the YearOutdoor Canada Specials (for outstanding achievement in overall performance, consistent with ongoing promotional efforts throughout 2015 that combined to reach stated circulation goals. This could include retail programs that span numerous issues, multiple subscription campaigns over the course of the year, or digital initiatives that helped to achieve circulation targets.)
  • Lifetime Achievement – Mark Hamill (Rogers) (The award recognizes a body of work with an extraordinary legacy of achievement in magazine marketing.)

Sarah Watt of Abacus Circulation wins CMC lifetime achievement award

Here are last week's winners of the CMC Awards for circulation and audience development, presented by the Circulation Management Association of Canada.

The 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award went to Sarah Watt, Abacus Circulation. The 
award honours an individual in the Canadian publishing industry for a body of work that represents an extraordinary legacy of achievement in magazine marketing.

The 2015 CMC Audience Development Award
Recognizing outstanding work in a circulation campaign.

  • Gold: Today's Parent - Walmart Canada Baby Registry Program
  • Silver: MoneySense - 2015 Web Campaign
  • Bronze: Zoomer - Online Conversions
2015 Vendor Award
This award recognizes the outstanding contribution of an individual working with a vendor in support of the Canadian publishing industry – a remarkable person who helps magazine circulation experts excel at what they do.

2015 Volunteer of the Year
  • Arlene Shepard, Vice President, Press Management at Gateway Newsstands

ACE Awards renamed CMC Awards; scholarship and lifetime awards to change

The Circulation Marketing Association of Canada (CMC) has decided to make some changes to its awards and scholarship programs. The former ACE Awards will now be called the CMC Awards. The Caren King Scholarship will now be called the CMC Scholarship Award and will have its amount increased to $5,000 from $3,000. The Terri De Rose Memorial Award has not been formally renamed, but probably will be. It is given in collaboration with the Chang School at Ryerson University. 

The former Marketer of the Year Awards will be henceforth called the CMC Lifetime Achievement Award and it and other CMC Awards will continue to be presented at the CMC's annual luncheon held in conjunction with the MagNet industry conference in June.

Jon Spencer wins Circulation Marketer of the Year at CMC ACE Awards

Jon Spencer of Abacus Circulation was named Marketer of the Year yesterday at the Circulation Marketing Association of Canada (CMC) ACE Awards (part of the MagNet conference). Spencer is well-known as a circulator, consultant and seminar presenter. Other winners were:
  • The Caren King Award for professional development: Amanda Beattie of Quarto Communications, Circulation Coordinator at Cottage Life, Canadian Home Workshop, Explore and Outdoor Canada
  • LouLou took the ACE award for paid consumer subscription category title
  • Michael J. Fox accepted the newsstand promotion award for Garden Making magazine
  • Transcontinental Publishing won the CMC Eco Award for the Greenest Direct Mail/Renewals
  • Consumer Offline Promotion was won by MORE magazine
