Szilvassy stepping down as Brick publisher; Graham takes over

At the end of this month, Nadia Szilvassy is stepping down as publisher of Brick, the international literary journal, turning over her responsibilities to poet and editor Laurie D. Graham.

Szilvassy has been with Brick since January 2007, first as managing editor and then, in 2011, taking over the role of publisher from Michael Redhill. As Brick editor Michael Helm said at the launch of the new issue at the Lucky Shrike Bar on June 6, 2016,
"Brick has grown nationally and internationally under Nadia's guidance and great judgment…. The unbroken rhythm of working at a literary magazine can be pleasurable one day and feel like a dangerous pressure vortex the next. Nadia has danced us beautifully through these vortices."
In the announcement in her publisher's note in the new issue, Szilvassy said
"It's been over nine years since I first arrived at Brick. No spring chicken, but nonetheless a fledgling in the field of publishing, I found myself all of a sudden swept up into the midst of countless passionate conversations about writing, art, and life that reached from our Toronto hub out and around and across the world. My head still spins."
Graham has been an editor on Brick's masthead since issue 93 (Summer 2014) and who previously held the role of circulation manager and assistant editor from 2010 to 2014. Graham is the author of two books of poetry, Rove (Hagios Press, 2013) and Settler Education (McClelland & Stewart, 2016), and has taught writing at Humber and Fanshawe Colleges and the University of Guelph.

No regrets as Regret the Error blogger Craig Silverman moves it to Poynter

Followers of Regret the Error blogger Craig Silverman, who is based in Montreal, will be interested to learn that he is moving from being a weekly columnist for the Columbia Journalism Review to join the respected Poynter Institute. His blog will be moving to Poynter.org.
He reports happily that he will be able now to spend most of his time writing for the blog (and other Poytner blogs). His url is being redirected early next year.
One of the frustrations I’ve had with running this site is it’s never been more than a sideline. My day job has always been elsewhere, meaning I couldn’t jump on news quickly, or devote time to longer, reported pieces. I’ll now be able to do that, and a lot more, too. One of the best parts? The vast majority of the work I produce is going to be available free of charge. And that work will be produced in conjunction with the great and knowledgeable people at Poynter.
His move will mean he is stepping back to an advisory role with OpenFile, the online news site he helped to launch in 2010.
Regret the Error was launched in 2004 to report on media corrections, retractions and apologies and led to a book of the same name. Silverman has also been, and will continue to be, a weekly columnist for the Toronto Star. He is president of the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC).

The Dance Current publisher and founding editor is looking for two people to replace her

It's not your everyday situation when the founding editor and guiding light of an important small cultural magazine not only announces that she is relinquishing her role (or most of it) but also looking for two people to succeed her. That's the case with Toronto's Dance Current magazine. (The magazine is published in Toronto's distillery district.)
Megan Andrews, publisher and founding editor, a dancer who started a magazine because she felt dancers and audiences needed one, has decided after 13 years that it is time to move on. The magazine is looking for a publisher and an editor, both part-time, to whom Andrews can pass the reins. Applications are being accepted until April 26.
