“There is no Calgary Police News Magazine and the Calgary Police Service does not solicit advertisers,” said duty inspector Jim Stinson .Stinson said the police have identified a few more complaints through social media, though he doesn’t know how much money the victims were asked to pay.The caller, whose number has been traced to Virginia, presses aggressively for the ads and asks for personal information and credit card numbers.

Ad scam for non-existent magazine

It's enough to give magazines a black eye. Calgary policy are warning people about a telephone scammer who claims to be selling ads for a police magazine. According to a story in the Calgary Herald, the magazine -- Calgary Police News Magazine -- does not exist.
