Muscle mag titles of bankrupt Robert Kennedy Publishing sold to California company

The titles of the Mississauga-based Robert Kennedy Publishing Inc., which went into bankruptcy three months ago, a little more than a year after the death of its eponymous founder, have been sold to a California publishing company, Cruz Bay Publishing Inc.

Cruz Bay is a subsidiary of Active Interest Media (AIM), based in El Segundo, California, which owns Yoga Journal, Vegetarian Times, Sail, Power & Motoryacht, Backpacking, Black Belt, Log Home Building, Old House Journal, Amazing Wellness, Better Nutrition, Horse & Rider and American Cowboy. This year AIM purchased Skiing magazine from the Bonnier Mountain Group.

According to a story in the Financial Post, the magazine properties Reps, American Curves, and the former magazine Maximum Fitness, were sold by the trustee in bankruptcy, Deloitte and Touche. The sale was approved by Ontario Superior Court on August 23. In a related deal, Oxygen and MuscleMag International, which were not held by Canusa Products Inc., the parent of RKP, but were part of Robert Kennedy's estate were also sold to Cruz as were Clean Eating and other U.S. and Canadian trademarks owned by Kennedy's wife, Tasca Reno.
