Get a glimpse of the future at OCAD grad show

Many of Canada's best art directors and designers have graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design in Toronto; many others have passed through in one way or another. The graduate students are holding a showcase on Wednesday, May 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 100 McCaul Street where you may get a glimpse at the future of magazine design in this country

i went to the graduate show recently and was really underwhelmed by the quality of work, esp. the "editorial" stuff. it was remarkably tame and lacklustre -- barely suited for mediocre advertorial. if that is the future, i'm worried

As I understand it, this is the first annual such event. So perhaps this is a different show, with different results?

sorry, i went to the graduate show preview by invitation. don't mean to be adowner, but having seen similar shows elsewhere, i think these kids need better inspiration, stronger instruction

I would have to agree that the show was no great shakes. Still, I think "the future of magazine design" in Canada is safe...this isn't stem cell research we're talking about here. These students will quickly learn how to apply their skills in their work environments.

This Show will really have some amazing work and will be worth it to take the time to see it.

Even if some of the work is tame, that does not mean it is poorly designed.

It is a judged event and work was selected by some top designers in the field.

As a representative of Urbanology magazine, I am defiantly looking forward to see the OCAD students’ talents.

If these students need inspiration all they need to do is look our way. Urbanology was started by two young people fresh out of school and has become Canada's #1 urban lifestyle magazine.
