Oh yeah? Says who?

The antagonism between Maclean's and the universities it says it wants onside for its Universities Issue doesn't seem to cooling off; in fact, Tony Keller, the Managing Editor, Special Projects, seems in a fairly combative mood. The tone of his "Uniblog" seems somewhat surprising coming from Maclean's. His choice of language is sometimes a bit over the top, too, at least if they truly want to smooth things over. A friend points out the use of the vulgar term "money shot" in one of the posts on October 9. (See the wikipedia definition) Not a word you'd use around the common room.

I think the "money shot" meaning in Wikipedia is outdated. A "money shot" can refer to much more than the original pornographic references.

I agree. A money shot, in this context, means simply "the best example." That's how I read it, anyway.

Remember the movie Swingers, with Vince Vaughn? They all used the term money when they referred to something that was really great. ("That's so money.")

Others have pointed out that, in basketball, a "money shot" commonly now means making a crucial three-pointer. However, regardless of the evolution of the word, the point of this was to note the aggressive edge to Keller's postings, a tone that seems at odds with trying to patch things up with the universities.

Yes, all that may be true. Obviously "money shot" can mean other things. But I challenge you to not immediately think of porn when you hear the term, regardless of the context. In fact, it was from porn that the term gained the potency required for it to be used effectively in every other context.
