Calgary gay title Outlooks celebrates
10th anniversary
Outlooks magazine, a national monthly gay and lesbian magazine published out of Calgary, is celebrating its 10th anniversary issue; the March anniversary issue is being distributed today.
"The magazine publishing industry is considered a risky business under the best of circumstances and many new publications do not survive in the long term," said Outlooks founder and publisher Roy Heale about the milestone.
"Add to that a niche market catering to Canada's gay and lesbian community and Outlooks was considered by many to be a doomed venture."
The magazine says it is distributed in about 600 places across Canada and claims a readership of 250,000.
The anniversary edition includes an article written by retired Calgary police chief Christine Silverberg, who appeared on the cover of the magazine in 1997.
