Both senior editors at The Walrus take leave

Both senior editors at The Walrus magazine, Marni Jackson and Nora Underwood, are going on leave to handle book and other writing projects. Notice was given, according to publisher Shelley Ambrose, who said the magazine naturally regretted their -- possibly temporary -- loss, but completely understood the reasons they requested leaves. Heavy editing responsibilities made it difficult to get any writing done, which is something both women want to do. No one has yet been tapped to replace these two key staffers, Ambrose said.

Where have we heard this before? Two more good, experienced journalists admit that it's impossible to work with "Brandy" Alexander. Par for the course.

Some staff changes at Walrus you haven't reported on yet. From an email written yesterday by Ken Alexander:

"Sylvia Barrett will be starting as a full-time senior editor on April 14. Sylvia has been around for a long time, has edited many of Canada's finest writers, loves the mag, and is relocating to Toronto (by week) to take this job. More good news: Jeremy [Keehn] is going to move into full-time handling as a full-time senior editor, effective as soon as we get this puppy out the door. More good news: Jared Bland will become the new managing editor on March 17."

In the wake of Jackson and Underwood's departures, is Keehn's move a prelude to also stepping out the door? And Bland seems like he's being elevated from unpaid intern to M.E. without actually having any other experience. A Ken Alexander puppet hire.
