CA Magazine tops KRW awards for B2B magazine excellence

IT World's Rafael Ruffolo won the gold award for best how to or series at the 55th annual KRW awards, presented Monday night in Toronto by the Canadian Business Press. It was among 18 awards for trade magazine excellence in writing, design, photography and the use of the internet that were made in honour of Kenneth R. Wilson, who once edited the Financial Post. The awards were founded by CBP in 1954.
“Rafael’s win is a good reminder that quality journalism will always find an audience,” editor-in-chief Shane Schick said in a release. “This was the kind of piece that has become a ComputerWorld Canada trademark: something that educates as well as informs. You couldn’t put this story down without having something practical you could apply to your own business.”
Gold winners, who were chosen from among 180 finalists and 464 entries, each received $1,000. Silver winners received $500. CA Magazine won six prizes and OHS Canada Magazine won both gold and silver in the Best Technology/Industrial/Manufacturing Article category. Up Here Business magazine was also victorious, grabbing two top awards for their work in Best Profile of a Person and Best Regularly Featured Department or Column categories.

Other gold award winners included
  • Canadian Architect
  • Canadian Medical Association Journal
  • Canadian Transportation & Logistics
  • Canadian Underwriter
  • Foodservice News
  • Hotelier
  • National
  • Pour parler profession
  • The Northern Miner
This year's Harvey Southam award for outstanding achievement went to Masthead publisher Doug Bennet and a $2,320 donation – collected from a portion of every KRW entry – was made to the ABC Canada Literary Foundation, CBP’s charity of choice.
