Tsang Media winding up most indy magazine ad sales in Canadian market
One of the biggest challenges for small, independent magazine titles in Canada, particularly in the arts and culture area, is selling advertising. Or, more particularly, finding someone who takes on the challenge of selling ads for indy titles and believes in their value.
That's why it's unfortunate that Tsang Media, the rep house run by Olivia Tsang -- is winding up its operations in Canada. Ms Tsang is to move back to Hong Kong this fall to look after her aging parents. As a result, some of her clients will be looking for new sales reps.
This Magazine has already posted the job. Besides This, Tsang provides advertising and sponsorship sales to a variety of titles such as North American sales for New Internationalist, Prefix Photo, Education Today as well as Buddies in Bad Times theatre, the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, and the Genie and Gemini Awards. Previously, she repped C magazine.
Ms Tsang said in an interview that she hopes after her move to continue representing New Internationalist, perhaps handling some sales in Asia for them. She said she regretted the move since it is so difficult for smaller, niche publications to find people with sales skills, but played down her decision, characterizing it as "small news".
