NYT magazine scoops its own print edition by publishing two weeks ahead, online

The New York Times magazine published one of its stories online, two weeks before it will be delivered to print subscribers. According to a story on Politico, it was because the subject -- Inside President Obama's war on terrorism by Peter Baker -- had taken on an urgency because of the foiled Northwest Airline event.

While it has become commonplace for stories to be put up two or three days ahead, two weeks might be pushing it, particularly from the viewpoint of the subscribers. This was acknowledged by
deputy magazine editor Megan Liberman, who said that “the urgency set in" to publish sooner.
“We just thought we should push the web-first mantra as much as we could....This is the new universe we all live in. If we have something urgent, we’re not going to wait it out because we have a print date set.”
