Stories usually told in the dark, behind the hand and over a drink

It's either amazing chutzpah or suicidal hubris, but a group of magazine writers and editors are going to spill some secrets at the Drake Hotel Underground in Toronto on Wednesday, June 20 at 9 p.m. Cost $5.25.

It's said that the following will reveal unpublished gossip and innuendo and instances of self-censorship and frustration with editors and producers. "These are stories usually told privately, between journalists, and over drinks." says the notice about the event, which features:
  • Derek Finkle on Toro Magazine's bullfight with the Globe and Mail
  • Richard Goddard on booking the CBC's most difficult radio guest
  • Chris Randle on his "sexiest experiences in journalism"
  • Bill Shields (late of Masthead magazine) "burns whatever bridges he hasn't already"
  • Jay Teitel on the many deaths of Saturday Night.
  • Antonia Zerbisias on the end of media criticism (along with the end of her Toronto Star media criticism column)
  • hosted by Jesse Brown
[Thanks to David Hayes and the Toronto Freelance Editors and Writers list for the tip.]

Sounds like the only thing missing is a disgruntled editor or three from the Walrus.

There should be an open mic. After a few drinks, I'd certainly be on stage telling a tale or two.
