Buy Nothing Day, an idea that was hatched by
Adbusters magazine of Vancouver 15 years ago has grown over the years into an international movement. For instance,
Ethical Consumer magazine in Britain is urging its readers to "detoxify from consumerism" by buying absolutely nothing on Saturday, November 24 (in North America, the day is being observed on Friday, November 23). The
Adbusters' release about the 2007 event
is here.

Well, if it is a good thing for a day, why not for a year? Oops, then everyone might starve to death.
Fair enough, though I think the idea is symbolic rather than suicidal. If you changed it to "Buy Less Day" it would probably not resonate or get as much attention.
