Canadian Poker Player folds

After four years of publication, Canadian Poker Player magazine has folded. It was apparently a victim of the crackdown on online gambling which resulted in advertising of gambling websites drying up. The magazine, which sold a sub for C$49.99 for 12 issues, was closed down with a terse message from its publishers.
"Fifth Street Publishers regrets to announce that because of the decline in advertising for Canadian Poker Player Magazine, and lack of sponsorship for the Canadian Poker Tour which is the sole business model of Fifth Street, both assets have become dormant for the time being."
The magazine was started by Randy Hewines of Vancouver and Dave Scharf of Saskatoon. It had only 2,400 paid subscribers, but newsstand sales of 11,000 and 17,000 controlled distribution in Canadian casinos. It claimed an audience of 91,000 and its rate card said a full page ad cost $2,500.
