Tales of outsourcing: Aussie firm handles 1,800 pages a week
An Australian firm, Pagemasters, is now sub-editing (copy editing and laying out) 1,800 pages a week for publishers worldwide on a contract basis, according to a story in Media Guardian.
The Daily Telegraph in Britain has confirmed that it has contracted out the handling of 150 pages of its travelling, motoring and money content, including both daily and Sunday editions. According to the story, each page "subbed" costs about A100 or about £45, though it is not clear what it costs the Telegraph to do the same work in houses.
Interestingly, Pagemasters (which has about 140 employees) is a division of Australian Associated Press (equivalent to Canadian Press) which is owned 47% by Rupert Murdoch, whose company News International now prints the Telegraph.
