Magazine people step up to help the awards

This being a tough year for the National Magazine Awards, it's interesting to see how people from within the industry are stepping up to help. An appeal went out yesterday from former awards foundation president Kim Pittaway, asking for contributions to a "creators' fund"; if she can raise $1,500, that will be enough to sponsor one of the awards. Anyone interested can reach Kim at kapittaway[at]yahoo[dot]ca. (Full text of her appeal can be read on the Mastheadonline site or at Kim Pittaway's website)

Already a separate appeal, this time to past presidents of the National Magazine Awards Foundation, has raised enough pledges to sponsor one of the other awards. [Disclosure: As a former president myself, I suggested the idea and made the pitch to my colleagues].

Great news! In about 48 hours, we've surpassed our goal and raised just over $2000. If you haven't contributed yet, please do--maybe we can sponsor two awards (there are over 30 awards, after all)! Either way, all of the money goes to support the prizes offered to creators. Thanks to all for your help and contributions,
Best
Kim
