UK Press Gazette to close after 43 years
[This post has been updated] The UK Press Gazette, which has been reporting on the media industry in Great Britain for 43 years, is being shut down. The owners, Wilmington Group plc bought the magazine out of bankruptcy protection in 2006, but said that despite significant investment, it was not able to bring it to profitability.
Unlike Masthead magazine in Canada, which closed down its print product but continued as an online publication, the Press Gazette as it has been known will essentially disappear. The site will be be developed a "resource for the UK journalism community", but won't contain any reporting or journalism about journalism, including magazines.
The company said it would continue to run the British Press Awards.
