Legion magazine looks for first time
to the newsstand

For the first time, Legion magazine will now be made available to the public on newsstands. The May-June issue will be the first in which the veterans' magazine will be sold as single copies. Previously, the magazine was only sent as a benefit to the approximately 275,000 members of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The first newsstand issue will feature a special pull-out, birds-eye view map of Juno Beach to commemorate the 65th anniversay of D-Day, the invasion of mainland Europe during the Second World War.

Legion's challenge has been that the RCL's membership has been steadily declining as members die and branches close; while some of the attrition has been replaced in part by family members and other recruits, the delivered copies of the magazine, according to audit figures, has declined about 17% since 2004, from 331,621 to 276,198 in 2008.
