Terry Sellwood elected chair of Magazines Canada

Terry Sellwood has been elected board chair of Magazines Canada for the next two years at its annual general meeting, held during MagNet, Canada’s Magazine Conference and the largest gathering of the writing and publishing media in the country.

Sellwood, general manager of Quarto Communications, the publishers of Cottage Life and explore, has been deeply involved in the industry, as a past chair of both the Circulation Management Association of Canada (CMC) and the National Magazine Awards Foundation. He has been volunteer of the year for Magazines Canada and marketer of the year for the CMC.

Also elected to the 2009-2010 Magazines Canada Board of Directors was:

Joyce Byrne, Alberta Venture
Michael Fox, Marketing
Robert Goyette, Sélection
Jacqueline Howe, Style at Home
Mark Jamison, Magazines Canada CEO
Samantha Legge, TV Week
Sharon McAuley, Toronto Life
Kirby Miller, Canadian House and Home
Deborah Morrison, The Beaver
Jocelyn Poirier, Clin d'œil
Melony Ward, Canadian Art
Derek Webster, Maisonneuve
Lisa Whittington-Hill, This
Grant Young, Downhome

The association also adopted an aggressive 2009-2010 business plan dubbed a “toolkit for the times”.

"What bodes well is the Canadian industry’s decade-long focus on adapting to new distribution platforms,” said Mark Jamison, Magazines Canada’s CEO. "Canadian-owned magazines have trusted brand names and rich, home-grown content. They have attracted larger and still growing audiences, even as they compete in Canada which is considered the world’s toughest global magazine market."
