Profile raises question of whether The Tyee is hooked on one man's vision
David Beers' profile in the Globe and Mail on Saturday was puzzling. The article seemed to celebrate the success of The Tyee online paper but paradoxically I came away from it with the feeling that while enjoying amazing growth and influence, it would not survive without Beers' vision and energy. And this was despite his valiant attempts to share glory and responsibility.
As Vancouver journalist and Tyee contributor Charles Campbell said: “Small media organizations are hugely dependent on one person's vision. Right now, The Tyee is hugely dependent on David Beers.”
I wonder what the readership feels about how deeply entrenched The Tyee is becoming in the BC media landscape and whether it would be self-sustaining whatever David Beers decides to do in future.
If you don't regularly visit The Tyee, you might do so and wondering whether an equivalent in other provinces might be equally worth the trouble.

Pretty much all small business are dependent on one person. Media - new or old - is no different.
It's rather annoying the way Beers keeps commenting on the Globe article. Sometimes you have to just sit back and let the comments flow...
