Laas Turnbull to be publisher and editor of Star Media's Eye Weekly
Laas Turnbull, who recently left Brunico Communications (Strategy etc.) where he was executive vice-president is joining Star Media Group as publisher and editor of Eye Weekly , responsible for all print and online properties. According to a post in Masthead, Turnbull will report directly to Star Media Group president and Toronto Star publisher John Cruickshank.
Turnbull quit as editor of the Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine in mid 2006 to become executive vice president of Brunico. (At the time he told Masthead that he didn't want to be an editor past 40 and wanted the chance to explore the business side.)

And so what has happened to Alan Vernon who was editorial director at Eye?
I have watched Turnbull's career for many years and can tell you EYE will finally be something worth reading. Brilliant packager and developer of talent. This is really good news for the Canadian magazine community.
er, Really?
I’d say most of us find the news alarming at best, repugnant at worst. Eye’s staff are doomed.
How "Joe Clark" can presume to speak for "most of us" is beyond me.
