Setting the gold standard for the most expensive magazine in the world

And you thought a fifth colour was exotic...The world's most expensive magazine (at least we don't know of one more expensive) is Kohl, a magazine in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It has only published four issues, but one copy of the latest issue now has over 600 diamonds and 91 grams of gold on the cover and is valued at over $10,000. It is to be sold in October by auction as a fundraiser for the Dubai-based Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, according to a story published by Express India.

The logo is studded with diamonds and the name is written in 22-carat gold. The cover image is of actor Katrina Kaif and, having so to speak taken a shine to it, advertiser the Damas jewellery group paid to bejewel the issue.

The single gold edition certainly cannot be bought on the stands, it will be brought under the hammer at an auction in October, says Faarah Mehta, group editor of the Asian titles of ITP Group that launched the magazine in March. “It took more than 86 hours for the craftsmen to layer gold leaf on the special edition,” says the 20-something Mehta, who moved from her home in Mumbai to magazine business in the UAE three years ago.
Kohl is the UAE's first and only women's lifestyle and fashion monthly catering to Asian expat women between the ages of 25 and 40.

I wonder what they pay? Probably $1 a word.
