Maclean's Publisher and Editor Ken Whyte gave credit to his predecessors when he circulated a message last week along with the press release about the most recent results from the Print Measurement Bureau:
Just wanted you all to see the press release we sent out thisafternoon on our latest readership numbers. It'svery good news for us. We are back in front of Time magazine. We have about40% more readers per issuethan the Globe and Post combined. We're increasing in the right demographicsas well. This is a credit to the good work of PaulJones and Tony Wilson-Smith, and to all we've endeavored to buildin the past year.
We're also on a nice run with our newsstandbusiness. We finished the first quarter of 2006 ahead of Time magazine in HDS marketshare (27% to 24%. They beat us 33% to 18% in 2004 and 33% to 21% last year. HDS only represents about 20% of our total newsstand draw so we have to be careful about reading too much into these numbers but theyare nonetheless a reasonably good indicator of newsstand health.
Congratulations, and thanks for all your wonderfulwork. kw
