Canadian Living goes seriously green

Canadian Living has gone "green" in a serious way. Its April issue, now on the news racks, is themed green, with stories about an 11-year-old crusader for polar bears, a profile of the small town of Craik, Saskatchewan that revitalized itself by going green and a story about the Spider Web Garden at Withrow Public School in Toronto. Editor Susan Antonacci says in her editor's letter:
What makes me particularly proud about this issue is that we’re the first major women’s magazine in North America to print on 100 per cent recycled paper.
This also makes Canadian Living the largest circulation magazine in Canada to be printed on ancient forest-friendly 100% recycled paper, joining the more than 20 titles that have already done so.

According to Markets Initiative, the organization that promotes AFF paper to Canadian magazines, the choice made for this one issue of Canadian Living saved 5,583 trees and forestalled enough greenhouse gases to be the equivalent of taking 104 cars off the road.
