Up Here Publishing launches one business magazine in place of two

Up Here Publishing Ltd. of Yellowknife is merging two of its trade magazines -- Far North Oil and Gas and Canadian Diamonds -- into one business magazine called Up Here Business, according to a story on CBC.ca. The first issue will be out in mid-January and will be available at newsstands across Canada and delivered to businesses in all three territories -- Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut -- in the coming weeks.
"Here in the North there's very little east-west contact or movement, and we think that in some cases it would be of interest to the business community to see what their neighboring business communities are doing," publisher Marion Lavigne, co-owner of Up Here Publishing, told CBC News in an interview.

While Lavigne started both magazines in the last 10 years to focus on those industries, she said a lack of major new developments in either industry has led to waning advertiser interest. The company also publishes a consumer magazine called Up Here.

"I think [that] will tend to show how all of the business interests in the North are interconnected. We all need to be aware of that and assist one another," said Mike Vaydik, general manager of the N.W.T. and Nunavut Chamber of Mines.
