Design City show focusses on colour, layout and selling design

Design City is a "show within a show", sponsored by Design Edge Canada magazine and part of Print World 2008, Canada's largest trade show for short-run printing. The show runs November 22 - 24 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto. There are three paid seminars and three workshops that are included in paid admission, all pitched at designers, art directors, design managers, production managers and anyone who's interested in making better magazines.

The three paid seminars ($75 each) are:
  • Why is My Orange Brown? a session on tools and techniques to produce accurate colour, run by Angus Pady, owner of Digital Solutions.
  • What's New in QuarkXPress 8, which is exactly what it sounds like, a guided tour of this latest upgrade to this widely used layout software, conducted by Bob Atkinson, a columnist for Graphic Monthly and Design Edge Canada.
  • How to Sell Design, a panel discussion moderated by Craig Swistun, a columnist for Design Edge Canada, talking about various designers' techniques for meeting their sales challenges.
Three workshops focus on sustainability, such as using footprint calculators to create greener design, how to use a redesigned creative brief to build sustainable business, and a panel discussing the results of an environmental practices survey by Forest Stewardship Council Canada.
