Digital editions said to be no substitute for a good magazine website

Kat Tancock over at Magazines Online blog weighs the pros and cons of digital editions of magazines, about which she could be said to be lukewarm. She sums up that a reproduction of the magazine pages is no substitute for a well-designed and well-executed magazine website.

Like Kat, I just don't get digital editions. They seem like web sites that don't work well or magazines that are too hard to flip through--the worst elements of two media combined in one irritating-to-use package. I recall reading, though, that B2B readers scored them well (or was that digital mag providers saying B2B readers scored them well?). Is there any data out there that anyone is aware of that reflects how users feel about digital editions?
