Study on state of the Ontario magazine industry due for release
On Friday, the Ontario Media Development Corporation will be releasing a study of the current state of the Ontario magazine industry. This is important not only because Ontario is home to slightly more than half of Canada's magazines, but also because there has been precious little good data available. The results of the strategy study will be distributed on November 7 to various stakeholders and published on the OMDC website.
The study, by the TCI Group, came about because of conversations between various industry representatives and OMDC, which serves not only the magazine industry, but other cultural industries such as film, television, digital media, sound recording and books.
Sharon McAuley, publisher of Toronto Life served as advisory chair of a committee working with OMDC research staff and TCI Group. Committee members included Matt Robinson, publisher of Outpost, Patrick Walsh, editor of Outdoor Canada, Terry Sellwood, general manager of Quarto Communications and MC president Mark Jamison.

I'll be interested to see if they even recognize magazines that have a circ of under 2500 - since OMDC doesn't recognize them when it comes to funding...
