BC Book & Magazine Week has events across the province

"Words connect" is the theme of BC Book & Magazine Week, which begins this weekend with a long agenda of events in locations across the province. The week-long literary celebration (April 18 - 25), co-sponsored by the BC Association of Magazine Publishers (BCAMP) and the Association of Book Publishers of BC (ABPBC)was founded in January 1999 as BC Book Week, and in 2001 the event expanded to include the province’s magazine industry.

Magazine events -- most of which are free -- include the WordsConnect Book & Magazine Fair, the Main Street Literary Tour, and Magazine Cabarets in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna and Prince George. There are more than 300 magazines published in BC, generating annual revenues of approximately $99 million and employing as many as 1,000 full-time positions and providing freelance and contributor fees to another 2,000 contract personal. BC magazines are estimated to reach between 60 – 80% of the province’s population.

The goal of the events is to increase awareness amongst British Columbians of the importance of the local publishing industry, and to contribute to increased levels of literacy and increased appreciation of the province’s rich and diverse publishing culture.
