Esquire cover features nude dressed
only in a short story
The first 48 words of Stephen King's new short story is being published on the cover of Esquire magazine's July issue; or rather, the words are painted on the nude body of Sports Illustrated's 2009 swimsuit covergirl Bar Rafaeli, according to a post from Blog Magazine.com.
This may be considered yet another of the buzz-making gimmicks that Esquire has attempted in recent months, including a window or flap in the middle of its February cover, revealing an ad, or last fall's flashing, electronic "e-cover".

It's already been published; my subscriber copy arrived last week. Esquire has been experimenting with its cover lines for some time now (handwritten, running behind images, and so on), so this isn't entirely surprising. Are they being gimmicky to attract attention? I don't think so. Rather, I think they're just having fun and being creative.
It is totally in the tradition of esquire, take a look at all of their covers at this web link

The only problem I have with this cover is the disconnect between the swimsuit model and Stephen King's book. Please enlighten me if this makes sense to anyone.
