New internship program may suit Ontario not-for-profit magazines

Not-for-profit magazines in Ontario may be interested in a new internship program available through the Cultural Careers Council of Ontario (CCCO). It is funded in part by Service Canada’s Career Focus, Youth Employment Strategy Program: The Fundraising and Marketing Internship Program. It is a half-year program for emerging arts administrators and concentrates on marketing and fundraising skill development.

M
entor organizations must have (or must create) an entry level fundraising or marketing position. There are a limited number of internships, so organizations will be accepted on the basis of the experience they can provide. CCCO will recruit and screen interns but mentor organizations may also recruit, provided the candidates meet eligibility requirements of Service Canada. Resumes of successful candidates will be sent to the mentoring organizations, which will then conduct interviews and choose their intern, who must be 30 years of age or less, post-secondary graduates, be unemployed or under-employed, and have not been the recipient of a previous Career Focus grant. The internships begin Monday, August 31st and continue for 24 weeks, followed by two weeks of classroom instruction.

CCCO pays a subsidy of $6,425 which amounts to half of the salary, vacation pay and other deductions, based on a salary of $479.25 a week plus 4% vacation pay.

Application deadline for mentor organizations and intern applications is Thursday, July 9th, 2009. For further information, contact Karen Ennis at (416) 340-0086.
