Surprise layoff of Today's Parent art director

Jo-Anne Martin Grier, the art director of Today's Parent magazine, was let go last Thursday, to the considerable surprise of the staff. No public announcement has been made and no word yet on who will replace her. She had been in the position since January 2010.

typical Rogers ways...bring in new EIC and clean house. Why not give the AD a chance? Her designs and covers were amazing! Another sad day at rogers publishing.

true enough... and that's got to be an expensive payout to fire without cause... could you really make a business case where the money it would cost to fire someone would result in similar gains in revenue? And looks incredibly insecure to boot...

As a seasoned industry professional, I highly doubt the new EIC (and dare I say inexperienced) can do as good without the talent of the old AD. TP is fun, creative, and wildly appealing. I guess we will have to see what she does in the next issue and judge for ourselves ... but I doubt she has a clue how to make a cover or the inside as creative as it was under the old AD. Watch your sales slip and Parents Canada start to take over.
