Lianne George promoted to editor of The Grid

Lianne George has been promoted to editor of The Grid, the weekly paper published by Torstar (and successor to Eye Weekly), assumes most of the editor's duties of Laas Turnbull, who had been both publisher and remains editor-in-chief. George had been deputy editor (and had previously been a senior editor at Maclean's) and, according to Turnbull, "played [a] huge role in the relaunch". In a note to staff, he said of the promotion:

Although I'll remain EIC and continue to be involved in all the big stuff -- staffing, strategy, general tone and direction, etc.-- this promotion for Lianne reflects the complete trust I have in her and also recognizes just how fundamental her contribution has been to shaping the voice, direction and, ultimately, success of the publication. Very, very well deserved!
