Bodybuilding czar and magazine publisher Joe Weider dies
Though he's perhaps best known for ``discovering`` Arnold Schwarzenegger, founding the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition and being quite a specimen himself, Joe Weider should also be remembered as a pioneering magazine publisher. Weider died Saturday at the age of 93.
Weider started his first magazine out of Montreal, Your Physique, in the early 40s with his younger brother Ben. Over the years, he founded dozens of other magazines, including Muscle and Fitness, Shape, Men`s Fitness, Flex, Living Fit and Fit Pregnancy. He sold Weider Publications to American Media Inc. (publishers of the National Enquirer and Star) about 20 years ago.
