Growing up with Stop Spadina

A delightful memoir by Adam Vaughan is published in the current issue of eye magazine, about the fight his parents helped to lead against the Spadina Expressway in Toronto. There will be a celebration, hosted by Spacing magazine, of the day the Spadina was stopped, 35 years ago, with a reception on Friday, June 2 from 5 to 7 pam. at Historic Spadina House, 285 Spadina Road. Adam Vaughan’s parents, Colin and Annette, were among the leaders of that movement — and he writes about the struggle as seen through the eyes of a child along for the ride. (Now, of course, Adam Vaughan has resigned from his television job to run for the Trinity-Spadina seat at City Council, the same Council where his father Colin served.)

His take no prisioners journalistic style will be missed. It will be interesting to see if any journalist emerges who will ask Adam V the same kind of tough and sometimes abrasive questions that he enjoyed asking. It will also be interesting to see how he handles quetions that sometimes border on being rude.
