Matt Blackett has "city soul" and
an award to prove it
Matt Blackett, the publisher and creative director of Spacing magazine, Toronto, has been named a winner of an Urban Leadership Award in the "City Soul" category. He shares that honour with CBC morning man Andy Barrie and the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.
The Urban Leadership Awards are given out annually by the Canadian Urban Institute and are to honour people and organizations that have made a profound and lasting impact on the quality of urban life.
The awards are to be presented at a gala luncheon on June 14 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

uh huh. If the Canadian Urban Institute is "dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in urban areas across Canada and internationally," why are all three winners from Toronto? Could it be TO-centrism?
A peek at the list of upcoming events on the CUI site provides a hint::
March 8, 2007 – Ghettos of the rich and the poor: Is this where Toronto is headed? March 30, 2007 – Nature Count$: Investing in Health & Wealth in Southern Ontario
May 31 – June 1, 2007 – SBO7TORONTO: New Capacity for Market Transformation
Three cheers for Matt. Spacing is one of the best magazines in Canada.
