Quebec anniversary to be celebrated in special two-language edition of The Beaver

The Beaver magazine, published by Canada's National History Society, is going to publish a 96-page, special issue (at right is a mockup) next year to celebrate the landing of Samuel de Champlain and Quebec's 400th anniversary. And there are plans to also publish the entire issue in French, the first time The Beaver has been introduced to a francophone audience.
"The special issue will be co-edited by noted popular historian Jacques Lacoursière, and involve the collaboration of some of Quebec and Canada’s best known writers and historians," says a Society release. "The focus of the issue will be to provide more in-depth reflection, from multiple perspectives about the significance of Champlain’s landing and what Quebec –both the city and the province have come to shape Canada over the past 400 years. It will bring to life the little known stories behind the dates, the personalities, and events of 1608, giving all Canadians even more incentive to want to plan to join in the celebrations. Or, for those unable to travel to Quebec, to help them feel a part of it all right in the comfort of their own living rooms."
The issue will distribute 100,000 copies, including the regular 50,000 Beaver subscribers, newsstands, special sponor distribution and a free copy to every school in Canada.
