Policy Options spreads the views:
Canadians like free trade

Later this week, Policy Options magazine will be publishing a special issue that marks the 20th anniversary of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Not surprisingly, the Montreal-based magazine and the conservative think tank that commissioned the poll (from SES Research) released it to the media to get some buzz about the issue. And, again not surprisingly, the poll is getting good play among free trade proponents because it says that Canadians are happy with the results of the trade agreement and would like to see more and similar benefits.
"The Free Trade Agreement is seen as a success and the level of confidence runs high across the board — in all regions of both countries, in all age groups and among all educational demographics," said the magazine, in a release. "What is most striking about the results was that in both Canada and the United States the intensity of support for free trade in many instances was 10 times stronger than the intensity against it on a number of elements."
You can read the detailed results of the poll at SES or at the Institute for Research on Public Policy, which publishes Policy Options.

A "conservative think tank" founded by Pierre Trudeau, and whose current president was Jean Chrétien's Clerk of the Privy Council. And indeed, it's "not surprising" that the issue was trumpeted to the press. As a member of the press, I have received advance word of every issue of Policy Options for more than a decade.
