Karen Kain resigns as head of
Canada Council

Karen Kain, who has announced that she is stepping down as chair of the Canada Council to devote herself to running the National Ballet, was more than an elegant figurehead; a hard-working and effective leader who'll be missed by all cultural industries, including magazines. Under her leadership, the first major increase in funding in many years was locked up.

Here's a statement from Magazines Canada that pretty much says it all:

We want to congratulate and thank Karen Kain for her success as Chair of the Canada Council. Karen 's accomplishments include securing a major increase in the overall budget of the Canada Council, bringing in a new era of cross-sector co-operation and stewarding the organization through major and positive changes at the administrative level that included hiring a newDirector in Bob Sirman. This is a great legacy, one that will serve cultural activity in Canada for many years to come."
