Wordstock explores tools for a new universe
The annual Wordstock conference, sponsored by the Ryerson Journalism Alumni Association, is on Saturday October 3 in Toronto, with the theme "Journalism tools in the new universe."
Wordstock is about broadly-based journalism (newspapers and other media), not just magazines, but this year's sessions are bound to be of interest to anyone who writes, edits and publishes. And a couple of well known names in the Canadian magazine business will be presenting, including Kim Pittaway and Paul Lima.
The day begins with a two-hour keynote seminar by Robb Montgomery, a Chicago-based trainer who will talk about how social media tools an improve reporting and creating digital media.
Following a BBQ lunch (included in the fee for the day) there will be a number of concurrent seminars.

There is also a discussion the evening before (October 2 at 6 p.m. ) on the future of journalism in Theatre Lib 72 at 350 Victoria Street (nw corner of Victoria and Gould). "What Next for News: A Conversation about the Future of Journalism" will feature renowned media futurist Clay Shirky of NYU; Andrew Keen, author of the international hit Cult of the Amateur: How the Internet is killing our culture; and Mathew Ingram, The Globe and Mail’s communities editor, blogger and Ryerson grad.
