Target chain in U.S. starts digital newsstand in collaboration with Zinio
The U.S. retailing giant Target is collaborating on a digital magazine newsstand with Zinio. It has begun offering magazines and books from more than 350 publishers on the Target website, with Target and Zinio sharing the revenue, according to a Reuters story. Richard Maggiotto, the Zinio CEO, said that initially he'd be happy to see 1,000 new subscriptions a month through the service. So far, Zinio gets about 60% of its sales from archival or current single copy sales, about 40% from subscriptions.
Zinio's standard offering is a digital "flip book" format for the magazines it offers. It recently struck a similar deal in Canada with Magazines Canada.
