Motorcycle Mojo catches a worldwide wave of interest with exclusive Uno cover story

It's not every day that the cover story in a Canadian special interest magazine is a runaway, worldwide success. Motorcyle Mojo magazine, based in Barrie, Ontario now knows what that's like, after its May-June issue ran a cover story about a funky motorized vehicle called a Uno.

It was an undeniable scoop and one that caught a lot of people's attention around the globe. So much so that the smoke was coming out of the webmaster's ears. Anyone searching for "Uno" was brought to the Motorcycle Mojo site and the exclusive photos were used by the likes of Sky News and ABC as well as a lot of British newspapers, most of which carried the magazine's credit line.

"We've been overwhelmed," says Gwen Roberts, the business manager of the magazine, which she and her husband Glenn own.

There have so far been 6 million hits, 120,000 page views and the traffic has mounted up to 65 gigabytes of data, enough to keep 5 web servers pretty busy. And what, you may ask, is a Uno? It's an electric motorcycle with two, side-by-side wheels and an on-off switch that operates like a Segway; that is, it goes forward when you lean forward and slows, stops and backs up if you lean back. It was developed by 18-year-old B en J. Poss Gulak who Glenn Roberts found at the 2008 National Motorcycle Show in Toronto. And the rest, well, see above.
