Source Interlink ends short-lived Toronto publishing presence

Source Interlink Media's decision to shut down all its recently acquired publishing operations in Canada means that some 17 people have lost their jobs, as the titles from the Toronto office are moved to Tampa, Florida and Los Angeles. This, according to a story in Mastheadonline.

Source Interlink, on of the the largest magazine distributors in the U.S., bought the Primedia Enthusiast Media almost exactly a year ago. Along with such well-known U.S.-based titles such as Motor Trend, Automobile, Hot Rod, Lowrider, Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly, Power & Motoryacht and, Surfer and Snowboarder, the deal also brought with it the Toronto-based Modified Automotive Group (MAG) titles (Modified, Modified Luxury & Exotics and Modified Mustangs) that Primedia bought a little over two years ago from young Canadian entrepreneurs Rob Laidlaw and Jesse Rasch, who started the group in 1999. All three MAG titles had a largely American readership.

The editors of the three titles remain with them, working out of home offices. An ad sales person remains working out of Toronto. But Source Interlink's short publishing presence in Canada is effectively over.
