What at least one magazine still doesn't understand about the web

Scott Karp, the Publishing 2.0 blogger who created quite a stir recently when he posted about what newspapers don't understand about the web, has turned his sights on magazines -- or one magazine, The Atlantic. Apparently, Karp was quoted in a story in the July issue, but could only find the June issue posted online. In fact that's all his post is about, not about magazine behaviour generally (though Karp maintains, without evidence, that it is an industry-wide problem), and his headline, while provocative, is somewhat misleading.

I think the general trend he is pulling out is the frustration most of the web community have with accessing print publications. By not providing clear and staightforward access, links, etc.

"the publisher basically thumbs their nose at web readers and violates a fundamental principle of the digital age — if a user knows your content exists, but can’t access it, the result will be frustration or worse."

And if google can direct attention to your work (and others) before you can then that's where readers will go to find out about it.
